On Thursday, November 12, 2020, the Deliberative Citizenship Initiative joined with the Center for Political Engagement, College Democrats, and College Republicans to host a deliberative forum on the future of democracy, which was free and open to the public.
Throughout 2020, countless voices and interests vied for our attention, our time, our advocacy, our energy, and our votes. The coronavirus pandemic, racial justice movements, nation-wide elections, and other headline-dominating events highlighted deep questions we have about our political and social communities.
“The Future of Democracy” was an opportunity to discuss how the events of the past year shaped our political community, and to examine how we can create the kind of political community we want in the future. Small group conversations were moderated by student, staff, and faculty facilitators who used an original issue guide developed by the DCI and were trained and certified by the Deliberative Citizenship Initiative.
